Construction Laborers are reliable, knowledgeable in the construction trade, and can perform the routine functions of the job. These functions include basic drainage installation, project demolition, basic tractor operation, installation of lateral and main line irrigation pipes, dry stack stone wall construction, flagstone and paver installation, hand grading, planting, drip line installation, mulch installation, checking and maintaining equipment, and low voltage lighting installation. This job features everything from irrigation repairs and small construction jobs to garden detail maintenance for high end clients. Landscape Designer

Landscape Designer

Landscape Designers on our Sales and Design team will need proficiency in landscape design and sales and general knowledge of construction and horticulture. They will be selling, writing, and fulfilling design contracts in addition to assisting with construction estimating, sales, and marketing efforts. Our design contract scopes generally include planting, hardscape, irrigation, lighting, and construction detail design. Full time position; 8am-5pm Monday-Friday.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Good attitude and ability to work on a close-knit team
  • Degree in horticulture, landscape architecture, equivalent topic or 4 years of landscape experience

  • Ability to assist with construction efforts such as preconstruction meetings, plant placement, client-Madrone coordination, and change orders and substitutions

Landscape Estimator

The Landscape Estimator will coordinate with the sales and design departments to respond to sales leads, perform take offs, create estimates, draft proposals and contracts, and sell landscape work under the guidance of the Sales Manager. In addition, this role takes on the responsibility of procuring plant material for all Madrone Landscape projects. The Landscape Estimator must have a basic knowledge of local plant species, be a quick and enthusiastic learner, and develop the skills to efficiently coordinate resources to procure plants for Construction and Maintenance Jobs.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 2-year degree in horticulture, construction management, equivalent topic or applicable experience in the landscape or construction industry.

  • Ability to effectively use Excel spreadsheets and basic AutoCAD tools for bidding purposes.
  • Proficient in estimating, proposal and contract writing, and sales lead coordination.

Job Functions

Estimator:

  • Serve as the primary estimator for Madrone Landscapes Sales and Design Department.
  • Read and take off measurements from plans to get accurate estimates of all included elements.
  • Read and understand construction details and specifications carefully for accurate estimates.
  • Use technology to efficiently estimate and compile data for project estimation.
  • Procure subcontractor and vendor quotes in a timely manner.
  • Estimate and sell between $400k – $1 mil worth of work annually.
  • Attend sales and design client meetings, take notes, and compile action items for all leads.
  • Assist in drafting of Contracts and Subcontracts.
  • Deliver estimates and proposals to potential clients and assist with client communication.
  • Assist Landscape Designers with site measurements and drafting, as needed.

Project Support:

  • Participate in Pre-Construction Meetings and ensure a clear transfer of information to the
    Construction Department.
  • Assist with Change Order estimation and proposal submission.
  • Facilitate order of long-lead items before project start.
  • Assist with submittals, as-built drawings, and project closing documents.

Plant Procurement:

  • Manage the procurement of all plants needed for construction and maintenance projects.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with nursery contacts for fast and effective communication.
  • Oversee quality control for all ordered plant material, keep track of pertinent plant availabilities.
  • Coordinate the best plant material (or substitutions) with the specific job criteria.
  • Schedule plant pick ups and deliveries in coordination with department managers.

Maintenance Laborer

Entry-level laborers and experienced individuals work on our maintenance teams, specializing in commercial, HOA, and garden detail maintenance, and use organic landscape maintenance products including compost tea. Full time position; 7am-3:30pm Monday-Friday.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Good attitude and ability to work on a team
  • Maintain physical fitness level necessary to complete assigned job tasks
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs
  • Valid California driver’s license and ability to be insured by company policy (requires 3-years clean driving record)

Maintenance Foreperson

Landscape maintenance foreperson responsibilities include field-level management of crews, complex tasks of landscape maintenance, irrigation maintenance and analysis, advanced pruning and trimming skills, and working within the quality and performance guidelines established by Madrone. Full time position; 7am-3:30pm Monday-Friday.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Good attitude and ability to work on a team
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English
  • Maintain physical fitness level necessary to complete job tasks
  • Ability to manage and report crew usage of chemicals safely and effectively
  • Ability to properly schedule irrigation for different plant types and soil conditions
  • Knowledge of irrigation valve maintenance, drip line and emitter repair, lateral line repair, sprinkler repair, and basic nozzle adjustments
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the basic elements of fertilizers
  • Ability to complete daily time sheets, maintenance logs, and pesticide use reports in an organized and efficient manner
  • Maintain a fast-paced work day while producing high-quality work
  • Ability to effectively drive and back up a truck with trailer
  • Ability to assess common issues such as water deficiency, pest damage, etc.
  • Ability to recognize rodent issues and correct types of defense for specific rodents (ground squirrel, gophers, moles, voles)
