Woodland Cottage Garden

Madrone created a common area with native plants, pathways, and multiple options for seating for this senior living retirement community. Madrone also installed a custom timber pedestrian bridge and a timber patio pergola to enhance usability and a sense of place within the community.
This mid-century modern residence sits ocean bluff-side, where the physical embodiment of crisp, salty air finds its way into the landscape. A landscape treatment of low-maintenance succulents, grasses, paths, and ground covers is placed deliberately to ease the transition between a modern interior and a coastal exterior. It also features a beautiful olive tree, and plants designed to silhouette against the garden walls.
Winner of the CLCA Beautification Award for Small Residential Landscape in 2011, this fascinating landscape makes the most of a tight situation.
Focusing on ease of maintenance and low water use, Madrone designed and installed a complete upgrade to this sandy, neglected site.
Low-maintenance, drought-tolerant succulents and natives bloom year-round. Pathways lead through the residential complex, easily guiding residents to parking, laundry, and outdoor areas.
