Mountain Ranch

Mountain Ranch | Atascadero, CA

This award-winning property features waterfalls of locally-sourced stone in front and back, flagstone patios, incredible views, raised vegetable planters, fruit trees and berry vines. It is a prime example of sustainably turning the site constraint of a steep hillside into an opportunity for a peaceful, mountain retreat.

Approaching this residence, the plant-lined driveway leads to an entry island which deflects headlights and sets up an entry experience. The beautifully planted entry garden, with oaks, olives, melaleuca, and a colorful variety of drought-tolerant shrubs and grasses accentuate the craftsman details of the entry (designed and built by Luhr Construction).

The backyard continues the theme, with the added elements of a straw bale seat-wall and deck. A paver patio completes the outdoor living area, and connects to the small lawn, with panoramic views of San Luis Obispo.

Relaxing Xeriscape | San Luis Obispo, CA

Risen from the ashes, this home and its surroundings were once only ruins from a devastating fire. After the fire, a true rebirth occurred with the rebuilding of the house and gardens. The purpose of this garden is simple: Sit, talk, relax and renew the body and spirit. Bold drifts of color and texture define the bulk of the garden, creating islands of Olive-shaded patios for meals, parties, or for just a private sunset meditation. This landscape is reminiscent of an impressionist painting and its broad strokes are free-flowing, soft, and peaceful.
