North County Rustic Modern

North County Rustic Modern

North County Rustic Modern | Paso Robles, CA

A redesign in Paso Robles at 10,600 SF, this North County backyard landscape creates a rustic modern outdoor sanctuary. The scope of work included perimeter fencing with access gates, walkways and patio areas to enhance flow and function throughout the property, a low-maintenance, drought-tolerant planting plan. Plans included an outdoor kitchen, BBQ and fire pit area, an irrigation system for maximum efficiency and performance, and lighting to enhance usability and aesthetics after dark.

The design includes points of interest and focal features such as a dry creek, raised garden beds, horizontal fencing, and landscape lighting. Stately oak trees with moonlighting create a canopy over the activity areas.

Modern Rustic Retreat

Modern Rustic Retreat

Modern Rustic Retreat | Paso Robles, CA

The east side of Paso Robles is characterized by Oak Savannahs, rolling golden hills, and intense dry summer heat. This straw bale construction home, designed for modern sustainability, protects those inside from extreme temperatures outside.

The garden similarly acts as a beautiful refuge, insulating the home from the surrounding savannah, while blending colors and textures picked up from both the natural setting and the architecture of the home. Drifts of pastel colors surround elegant patios to give a feel of being situated within a field of outstanding wildflowers, while still maintaining calculated patterns with four-season appeal.

Templeton Estate

Templeton Estate

Templeton Estate | Templeton, CA

This setting offers beauty from every angle. Driving up to the residence, visitors are greeted with a series of dg paths and a grand display of native and Mediterranean plants. Some of the selections, like New Zealand Flax and Cape Rush, offer year-round interest, while the seasonal bloomers such as yarrow, create a profusion of color during their bloom period.

Walking around to the other side of the house, the backyard reveals its vast expanse. On one end, a natural stone firepit and seating area await the perfect winter night. Above that sits a series of steps leading to a gazebo that overlooks the vineyards. Across the way, a large wooden pergola shades the patio – offering relief from the hot summer sun. Nearby, surrounded by California native plants, sits a bubbling boulder fountain. All the elements together create a landscape perfectly suited for every season.

Templeton Hills Overlook

Templeton Hills Overlook

Templeton Hills Overlook, Templeton, CA

In the hills of Templeton, this residence offers sweeping views of the surrounding hills. With dramatic grade changes, a series of retaining walls tidies the space and offers more usable area. The pavers, picked to match the retaining wall material, further complete the “finished” look of the space, while carefully selected plant materials are placed to soften the hard edge of all the block material. Finally, large boulders (selected from on-site) are used to bring greater texture and interest to the landscape.
